First, note for those of you that remember that undergraduate course in 19th Century English Literature...Thomas Hardy and friends. Thomas Hardy employed the notion of "coincidence" frequently in his novels. "Coincidence", I suppose, can be lumped with "chance, happenstance", or even "serendipity". It does occur with a mix of positive and negative results. Such is life.
