The consumption of oil/gas will not decrease anytime soon. It's more than just gasoline. There are thousands of consumer products made from oil. And in an unstable economy it will take a long time to reduce those gasoline inefficient vehicles. Furthermore, in the past decade many new and safer improvements have been made in extracting the black gold from the sea. The environmental issue is not that important.
