Robert Hooke...1703

Robert Hooke
July 18th, 1635 to March 3rd, 1703

Robert Hooke, an English natural philosopher, died March 3rd, 1703. Hooke made his own microscopes and rendered fine illustrations of what he observed. Hooke did not get along well with his contemporary Isaac Newton and at one point, arguing over a principle of optics, he so infuriated his adversary that Newton swore he would never publish another word on optics as long as Hooke was alive. This was about 1674. Hooked died in 1703 and Newton's Opticks was published the next year in 1704.
