Fushigi Ball...provides the appearance of defying gravity and closely involves the skills of contact juggling. The new toy is now being heavily marketed on television and in print. The object is made of a clear poly-resin and comes in two sizes: Three and four inches diameters. The three inch in diameter sphere weighs about 11 ounces. A single ball sells for $19.95 plus $6.99 shipping and handling. That's $26.94 for one ball of undisclosed size...a hefty price especially if one wishes to work at contact juggling requiring several balls.
One Internet website copy reads...
FUSHIGI is a form of contact juggling where the operator exploits the reflective properties of a clear sphere through specific hand and body isolations and movements that are designed to give the appearance that the FUSHIGI sphere is moving on its own or even floating. Fushigi is an incredible, therapeutic form of relaxation. The art of maneuvering a clear, reflective sphere through mind and body isolation and manipulation creates the illusion that the sphere may be defying the laws of gravity, as if the sphere is moving on its own.

Some comments...
Biggest complaint is the price followed by contact juggling purists that there are other sources for similiar products that are lesss expensive. Praises were given for the DVD tutorial. The over all complaint was the cost. I agree.
Contact juggling
Gyroscopes are cheaper.

ReplyDeleteThe appearance of a floating ball is an illusion that’s been around for at least 20 years, thus the "magic" angle to this product. The balls are made of acrylic, a very hard plastic, and appear to float like bubbles if you put in the time and effort.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, Michael Moschen was the first to pioneer the use of these acrylic balls which the Fushigi marketers have decided to call their own, while also laying claim to the art form that has existed for decades, and in some cases, even hundreds of years.
You can find a wealth of information on the balls sold by Fushigi by doing a web search for "contact balls", "acrylic balls" and "contact juggling". If you want to know more about this art form, this is an easy way to connect with the vast community that has formed over the past 15 years.
