Microsoft Corp said on Tuesday that it will charge between $99 and $499 for four retail versions of its Office 2010 software, due to be released later this year.

The pricing is generally in line with prices of its Office 2007 programs, one of the two most profitable product lines at the world's biggest software maker.

Microsoft will sell four retail boxed versions of the product, including a $99 academic version, a $149 basic version for consumers and a $499 full full-featured package for businesses.

Fine...if you like Microsoft Office features, then spend the $100 to $500 price. But if you want a simple word processing system without all the bells and whistles check Jarte ...it does a lot and it is free. I have used it for several years with no problems and it suits my needs.
